"With this change, Modern Transportation can be one of the most innovative bulk carriers in North America as it helps cement our advantage in efficiency, customer service, and safety.”

Patrick Cozzens, Modern Transportation's President

Modern Transportation is a large chemical transportation business operating with 300-plus drivers across 20 terminals. The company and its operations are deeply integrated and dedicated to several of its customers.

To manage its operations, Modern Transportation has used a suite of technologies including the on-premise TMW Suite, Samsara, Vector, EBE, Power BI, Great Plains, TMT, and UKG.

Modern Transportation’s Challenges:

  • The company's load-building process was labor-intensive

  • Relying heavily on physical trip sheets and scale tickets. This manual process resulted in lost revenue due to under-invoicing payloads.

  • To mitigate risk and prevent lost revenue, the company implemented extensive manual verification processes for accessorial pay, load compatibility, and dispatch assignments.

  • Additionally, calculating weekly driver pay and customer bills was time-consuming, eating up time that would be put to better use.

Modern’s Digital Transformation:

The BeyondTrucks team examined the processes in place at Modern Transportation to learn which ones were in place and for what reason.  As is the case with users of legacy software the limitations of the application drove workflows that are often not efficient and can be re-imagined with fewer steps or eliminated entirely.

This was the case at Modern where bolt on solutions were eliminated and applications were allowed to connect directly.  In addition, keystrokes and menial tasks have also been removed from many parts of the process making every labor dollar spent more impactful.

In the end their savings are considerable but, setting the business up strategically for years to come will be the real impact of moving to BeyondTrucks.
